Chemical Peels

Chemical peel

Chemical peels are a method of regenerating and resurfacing the skin by inducing a controlled wound to the skin. It removes the top layers of skin to help induce collagen re-modelling and improve sun-damaged skin, skin pigmentation problems, wrinkles, skin texture, and the overall appearance of the skin. There are several types of chemical peels each suited to different skin problems and types. Chemical peels also vary in strength and are classified as superficial, medium, and deep according to the level of skin they reach.

Superficial Peels

Can help to lessen rough skin texture, dry or flaking skin, fine lines due to sun damage, mild acne marks, "age spots" (brownish patches which can be caused by sun damage) and balancing irregular skin tones (i.e. skin which may be uneven in colour).

Medium Peels

Can reduce small wrinkle lines, some acne scars, and certain pigmentation problems (again, making different coloured skin more even).

Deep Peels

Can help to reduce the appearance of deeper lines, wrinkles and scars

Chemical peels cannot change your pore size, improve loose skin (saggy skin generally needs to be treated by surgery), or deal with deep scarring.

The key determinants to which chemical peel is right for you are; the degree of the skin problem/ageing/sun-damage, the skin type/colour, the amount of improvement you would like to achieve, and the amount of recovery or downtime that is acceptable by you.

The deeper the peel, the more side effects, potential complications, and recovery are needed.

Generally a series of superficial peels will give similar results to a medium depth peel.

MyFACE recommends a series of 4 – 6 superficial peels at fortnightly intervals, and medium peels at monthly intervals until desired affect is achieved.
