Sports Guards

Sports guard

If you play sports or participate in any physical work or activity that may present a significant risk to your teeth, a sports guard is highly recommended by myFACE.

Damage to your teeth and the roots of your teeth caused by blunt trauma can be permanent or lead to corrective measures that have significant cost and discomfort. Using a sports guard is easy, inexpensive and covers the upper teeth, minimizing the effects of a blow to the face, reducing the risk of broken or traumatized teeth and damage to soft tissues of the mouth.

There are several types of sports guards available:-

Custom Fit - Custom fit sports guards are created at myFACE. They are the "best fit" sports guard of choice and remain firmly in place during activity. Custom fit sports guards are an excellent choice for anybody that is frequently involved in an activity that may result in blunt trauma to the mouth. Your custom fit sports guard can be the colour(s) of your choice and even be customized with your name, or team logo on it!

Stock - Stock sports guards can be purchased at most sports shops or via the Internet. They are less expensive than custom fit sports guards but do not usually fit well, often impeding breathing.

Heat and Bite - Heat and bite sports guards, are a do-it-yourself custom fit solution. Purchased at most sports shops, heat and bite sports guards are placed in warm water to soften the material they are made from. Once softened, the sports guard is placed in the mouth and allowed to cool around the teeth, creating a custom fit. Heat and bite sports guards do not form correctly and may become uneven in the way they sit on the teeth.

It is important that your sports guard fits properly. A sports guard that does not fit properly may actually do more harm than good. Those who wear braces should consult myFACE regarding proper fit for both upper and lower teeth. Also, if you are the parent of a child using a sports guard, inspect the guard often and confirm with your child that the guard is fitting properly. As children grow, it may become necessary to replace their sports guard to accommodate for changes in the mouth.
