Electric vs Manual Toothbrush

Electric vs Manual Toothbrush

By Charlotte, Sept 26 2022

There is no right or wrong answer. There are pros and cons to both and electric and manual, we tend to recommend electric toothbrushes for our patients, here’s why:

Electric toothbrushes tend to have timers so you know how long you’ve been brushing for, pressure sensors to stop you brushing your teeth too hard and we tend to see better results, as majority of the tooth surfaces are clean. Some electric toothbrushes are considered better than others, they have more gadgets that come with them but this can impact the cost. It is important to remember you do not use all electric toothbrushes in the same way. If you’re unsure ask Megan or Lydia at your next hygienist appointment.

Manual toothbrushes can be just as effective but they are very technique sensitive and if you’re not careful you could end up missing surfaces of your teeth or even end up scrubbing away some of the tooth tissue and causing trauma to your gums.

Don’t forget cleaning in between your teeth with floss or Tepes, is just as important as cleaning your teeth.

If you’re thinking of switching to an electric toothbrush, we would recommend you go somewhere mid-range. You don’t need to spend hundreds on a toothbrush (unless you want too) but equally try not to go for the cheapest option. It always worth shopping around to try an find the best deal.

So that’s why here at myFACE we are team electric. Which do you prefer an electric toothbrush or a manual toothbrush?
